My Mother is one of those super women. You know the type. The kind of woman who has two kids, a full-time job, a spotless home and a healthy meal on the table every night. I have tremendous respect for her, especially now being a mother myself. I am sure I could write a whole book on lessons learned from my Mother (for being super mom without going crazy) but for today I will share a little secret that may save you some time and/or embarrassment this gift giving season.

The Gift Drawer. Yep, a drawer reserved for unassigned gifts, cards and wrapping paraphernalia. This drawer is in service all year round and must be well stocked during the holidays. In my Mother’s home, this was a larger than average drawer in her bedroom. She would keep it stocked with various items throughout the year like candles, girly bath products, slippers and humorous hallmark cards.

The main point for this drawer is to always have gifts on hand. There are many situations that this will come in handy. That unexpected guest that pops in, quick hostess gifts, extra stocking stuffers, a little something for your mail carrier or child’s teacher. Even birthday and anniversary gifts for unannounced occasions throughout the year. The Gift Drawer will not only save you from embarrassing situations but will save you time, money and quite possibly your sanity.

You can stock your drawer with sale items year round. These should consist of a variety of non-specific gifts that would be suitable for men, woman and children. You will also want gift wrap, cards and small boxes and bins. You can combine items to make quick themed gift baskets or bags. Here are some suggested items you may want to keep in your gift drawer. If you have any other ideas, send them my way!
